MUSIC AND AUTHOR VISIT

CJ Sola has written and illustrated two books (with more on the way!) and can share a lot about those processes. But there is also singing and mixing! CJ offers an engaging presentation about all aspects of music, its power to bring people together, its history, and how it is made.

Students get a look behind the scenes and have the opportunity to discuss the book-creation process.  We talk about figuring out what you're good at and finding ways to utilize that talent. And, of course, we talk about music! Flavor Land is a story that introduces blues and ragtime and how those two genres influenced the creation of jazz.  We'll talk and sing about those eras as well as listen and move to some of the music.  Genres are mixed up with many cultures and styles, but that is only one of the ways in which music can be mixed. Students will also get a glimpse at what it means to mix on the production side of music.  This is a truly unique author visit that allows children to experience and learn about many new things!
